A message from the pastor . . .
Since 1988, Hyland Heights Baptist Church has presented the Easter story in music and drama. Under the direction of David Dalton, Minister of Music, this event has become a Central Virginia tradition, growing from three presentations that first Easter weekend to ten presentations over two weekends.

This year the HHBC Choir will be featured as an integral part of the cast, a dramatic and creative departure from past years where the music was presented from a "living cross" set.

The Hyland Heights church family invests thousands of hours each year to make this dramatic depiction both true to the Scriptures and relevant to the times.

It is a labor of love, a gift from HHBC to the body of believers in our community and to those seeking lasting answers to today's complex questions.
NO ADMISSION, however a ticket will be required for seating, and a love offering will be taken.
It is the hope and prayer of our church that you will plan now to attend our 21st annual presentation of The Lynchburg Living Cross.

When you view this powerful story our prayer is that your heart will once again turn back in time to Calvary, and as you see the old rugged cross, you will realize that He died for you.

Take a moment to reflect upon His suffering, His sacrifice, His death, burial and resurrection.

If you already know Him as your Lord and Savior, it is our prayer that you will be encouraged and renewed in your walk with Him.

If you have never experienced His forgiveness, we encourage you accept His gift of salvation and surrender your life to Him before you leave the building.

We look forward to seeing you.
Do you know Him? Come see this powerful presentation and be encouraged in your walk, challenged in your faith and blessed in your spirit.

Do you seek Him? Come and let us share with you His Story...His love...His compassion...His sacrifice. Let us show you, direct from the pages Holy Scripture, how you can have a personal, eternal relationship with the God of the universe. You won't be disappointed.

From the parking attendants, to the costume and set designers, the construction crew, musicians, singers, actors, lighting and sound technicians, staff and pastor, we invite and welcome you to our church for this special presentation.
The music, the actors and the presentation have changed from year to year. But the story, THE STORY, is always the same! It's the story of Redemption, God's gift to a fallen race . . . the substitutionary atonement for our sins through the death, burial, and glorious resurrection of His Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, let me remind you of this . . . God has been doing “interactive” for more than two thousand years. First He tried to interact with us from a distance, but we kept shutting Him out. Then two thousand years ago He took the ultimate step of interactivity by sending His Son to earth to be Emmanuel---God with us. To go one step further He sent His Holy Spirit and gave Him the task of entering into our very lives so that God is alive within those who repent and believe.

Pretty “interactive” to think that God doesn’t want to relate to us from a distance . . . but up close and in person!

At the 2008 Living Cross we’re going to be interactive. You’ll see things that no other presentation has offered in the past as we bring you the story of God reaching down into our lives and making the person of Jesus Christ a reality that you can interact with.

Many of you have seen the beautiful lights and sets over the years, but our desire this year is to move you past the stage and into the heart of Jesus’ love for you. This year our “characters” will not only be speaking to one another but they will be speaking to you as well. This year will be more than "come and see". It will be a time for you to be there 2000 years ago when Jesus healed the sick and brought sight to the blind.

Our desire through the Living Cross is always to impact your heart with the simple truth that God loves you more than you have ever imagined. We’ve never presented the story of Jesus Christ to intrigue or to entertain, but to share the simple message that God loves you even when you don’t feel like anyone else does.

I invite you to join us for one of the ten presentations and to experience the love of God in a real way. Our prayer is that as you interact with God during the songs and drama that your heart will experience the love God has for you through the power of His Holy Spirit.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2008 Living Cross, He Loved Us More”.

Greetings,

You might say that I’m trying to keep up with all the new technologies of our day. While I don’t own one, I do know what an IPod is, and I know something about “downloading” songs and other media to it. My son has seen to it that dad and mom keep up with the "latest thing" by purchasing some of the newer gadgets when they come out.

Along with all the changes in technology comes a new lexicon . . . new words that help explain what's going on. One of the words we keep hearing is “interactive”. It seems like every new software program, every new toy, every new thing that comes to us is “interactive”.
